LIGHTHEARTED LOOK AT OUR PPG MEETING
HELD TODAY (Thursday 27th April 2017) at 12.30pm
Once gathered in our meeting room, the minutes of the previous minutes were quickly approved, when the meeting was interupted my a late arriving member. Me! (Naughty Marky, slapped wrist!) After apologising to the group for my lateness, we got down to the real business of the day.
We went straight into the most frustrating item – the telephone system.
Everybody in the practice realise how frustrated the staff and patients are with the VoiceBabble sytstem currently in use. We know that it is now a worn out comment, but please be patient patients, A new system will be on the way as soon as the pathway to bringing the new new system on-line is with us.
We are targetting the morning of Thursday 6th July 2017 as the best date for the Diabetes Event (A back-up date of 13th July has been agreed).
Chris will arrange the speakers as well as a schedule, and we will receive an update at the June PPG meeting.
Immediately after the Diabetes Event, patients will be invited to join us for a shortened additional PPG meeting.
Quality Improvement (QI) Training.
Although not directly involving patients, we will still feel the benefits of this staff training system, which will be co-ordinated by staff member Obi, and will include such items as the training of apprentices in rolls like nursing and administration. It will be interesting to see how this develops over time.
NAPP (National Association for Patient Participation)
As this group is now a member of this body, Mark has now gone through the documentation sent to us, and copies of the pages relevent to us have been photocopied and distributed to our PPG members for them to read over the next few weeks, and we will see what recommendations we have as a result at our next PPG meeting.
Any Other Business
It was requested that we make double appointments available to be booked by patients who have a lot to discuss. It was pointed out that we already have longer appointments than any other Practice in the area. Our appointments are already 12 minutes long, compared to the 8 or 10 minutes allocated by other practices. It was also pointed out that if there is an urgent requirement an appointment will run over the allocated 12 minutes, which is why some appointments may run a few minutes late on occasion. The booking of double appointments by patients would drastically reduce the number of patients each practitioner would be able to see. It was agreed therefore that double appointments would not be viable.
Bus 388 Route Change
It was pointed out that the 388 bus route now runs near St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, from within our area. It also now terminates at the Elephant and Castle.
The next Tower Hamlets Carers Forum will be held at the Carers Drop-In Centre on Tuesday 9th May at 11.30 am.

P.L.A.C.E. Assessment Scheme
Mark gave a description of just what the P.L.A.C.E. (Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment) Assessment teams do and how they work. They play a major part in ensuring that any care environment in their area is patient friendly and efficient. The locations can vary from Nursing Homes to the major hospitals. If anyone would like to participate in this voluntary scheme, please let me know via the comments link on this blogsite. Two other members of our PPG have now volunteered to help with PLACE assessments already, and I will be forwarding their details to the assessment controller.
